Barwell races into 2026 with new GT3 Heritage division

Barwell Motorsport is expanding both its racing and workshop programmes with the launch of an exciting new GT3 Heritage division, which will take the team into two new categories from next year as it joins the rapidly growing ‘recent classic’ GT3 racing scene.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the GT3 formula, Barwell Motorsport will head back to its GT racing roots with planned campaigns in both the GT3 Legends and new-for-2026 GT3 Revival Series next season. The latter series includes a race on the bill at the blue-riband Le Mans Classic event in July, thus giving drivers the chance to sample the famous French track aboard GT3 machinery from 2006-2015. Other venues visited by these series include the fantastic GP circuits of Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps.

Barwell Motorsport was one of just 16 teams to line up for the first-ever FIA GT3 race in 2006, held at Silverstone that May, and the creation of the new GT3 Heritage division is the latest chapter in the team’s story with the formula.

Having been at the forefront of top-flight international GT3 racing over the past 20 years, Barwell Motorsport is now one of only three teams from that original grid that remains in modern GT3 competition. Along the way the team has taken multiple prestigious championship titles in both domestic and international GT3 series, and over 50 race victories.

The team will be contesting both Motor Racing Legends’ established GT3 Legends category, and the newly launched Peter Auto/SRO-led GT3 Revival Series for next season with multiple entries.

Barwell already has its former British GT title-winning ‘Ecurie Ecosse’ BMW Z4 GT3 ready for action, and will also be specialising in running the Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+ GT3 and Audi R8 LMS machinery. The team started its GT3 journey with the Aston Martin brand, campaigning the stunning DBRS9 and Vantage V12 variants during 2006-2013, and has an extensive database of knowledge and experience of these cars.

These new GT3 series are fundamentally aimed at FIA Bronze-graded/’Amateur’ drivers, who can either drive on their own or with another ‘Am’, or alternatively with a ‘Pro’ driver (FIA Silver or Gold grade), with classes for ‘Am’ and ‘Pro-Am’ offering options for all combinations.

The race event formats mainly include two 50-minute races, with a good amount of practice time beforehand. This offers an incredible opportunity for Barwell’s customers to race these stunning ‘Heritage’ GT3 cars on some of the most iconic tracks in both the UK and Europe, such as Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, as well as the rare chance to race at the full Le Mans 24 Hours Circuit in the prestigious Le Mans Classic event.

And all of this can now be done at a fraction of the cost of modern GT3 racing. The team is currently inviting expressions of interest from drivers looking to join any of these 2026 race programmes, either in one of Barwell’s cars or as existing owner-drivers of suitable classic GT3 machines.

Motor Racing Legends is a leading historic racing organiser and last year launched the GT3 Legends series, with its headline event being held in front of a bumper crowd at the Silverstone Festival (formerly Silverstone Classic). The concept drew strong grids from the start with a four-round series in 2025, and next year’s calendar will also feature a race on the support bill for the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa.

The GT3 Revival Series is new for 2026, jointly created by historic racing powerhouse Peter Auto and the SRO Motorsports Group. The new five-round GT3 Revival Series takes in world class events such as the Le Mans Classic and Spa-Classic, with the remaining rounds held in support of the GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS.

Barwell Motorsport’s GT3 Heritage activities will be run alongside its contemporary GT3 programmes. The team is set to continue its fruitful partnership with Lamborghini Squadra Corse into 2026, having already celebrated multiple race wins and championship titles with the Italian brand over the past 10 years.

Together with this, the team is also launching a range of new customer workshop services to be carried out at its technical base in Surrey. These include comprehensive restoration programmes for early GT3 machinery alongside engineering services and race preparation and set up.

Barwell Motorsport team principal Mark Lemmer said:

“We are hugely excited at the prospect of going back to our GT racing roots with campaigns in two fantastic new series. While Barwell Motorsport’s history goes back to the 1950s, the modern team as we know it was crafted in GT3 racing. While it’s incredible to see how the formula has grown over the last 20 years, it’s also important to know where it all started and both the GT3 Legends and GT3 Revival Series will be excellent showcases of that.

“Alongside the new GT3 Heritage racing programme we are also proud to expand our workshop activities for owners of classic GT3 cars. We have a first-class technical team that has grown up racing and winning with these cars, so it makes sense to expand on that and offer our extensive know-how to customers. These are exciting times for both modern and classic GT3 racing, and Barwell Motorsport will continue to be at the heart of the action.”
